Seismic Data Analyst (Part time)
Prisma Photonics
Prisma-Photonics is a rapidly growing startup company, developing the next-generation smart-infrastructure solution based on novel fiber-sensing technology (smart roads, smart cities, perimeters, and grid monitoring, etc.). The company offers an award-winning disruptive solution; a “sensor free” approach to smart infrastructure. The company is VC backed and in the revenues stage.
Combining pioneering technology in optical fiber sensing with state-of-the-art machine learning, we help prevent environmental disasters, protect human lives, and keep critical energy and transportation backbones running smoothly.
We are now expanding our Customer Solutions Data Team and seeking a curious, detail-oriented Seismic Data Analyst (part time position).
This is not a traditional BI/SQL analyst role. Instead, you will work directly with raw seismic and acoustic signals — visualizing, listening, interpreting, tagging, and helping refine the logics that power our detection algorithms. This role is ideal for students who enjoy hands-on investigation of raw signal data – not classic data analytics, dashboards, or SQL-based BI work.
The Seismic Data Analyst reports to the Prisma Photonics Account Management Perimeter .
- Analyze raw seismic and acoustic fiber-sensing data using visualization and audio-based tools.
- Tag and classify events based on physical signal interpretation.
- Investigate customer-flagged and algorithm-flagged points of interest, interpret what occurred in the field, and document clear conclusions.
- Develop and refine tagging rules, patterns, and search methodologies that improve detection quality and analyst efficiency.
- Create technical reports for customers based on insights from the data.
- Build and maintain reference signature libraries that support future machine-learning development.
- Support Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) sprints related to field experiments.
- Student in a STEM (Science, and Mathematics) subject, preferably in the third semester of BSc studies and beyond or relevant Military experience as a seismic researcher.
- Strong analytical mindset and the ability to understand physical phenomena through signal data.
- High attention to detail, patience, and the ability to stay focused during deep-dive investigations.
- Curiosity about seismic/acoustic behavior, wave propagation, and how real-world events appear in fiber-sensing systems.
- Previous experience working with and compiling data libraries.
- Some experience writing scripts and small projects in Python.
