We are looking for a Structural Modelling Engineer to join our CAE & Advanced Methods team in our Verkor Innovation Center (Grenoble, France).
As such, you develop, validate, and deploy structural modeling capabilities for Li-ion battery cells, module and pack assemblies, and their components. You contribute to robust product design decisions by delivering reliable finite-element and surrogate models, correlating simulations with physical tests, and supporting design optimization throughout the product development lifecycle.

Main responsibilities :

  • Develop structural finite-element models for Li-ion battery cells, module and pack assemblies, and associated components.
  • Perform meshing on complex 3D CAD designs and run structural and thermo-mechanical simulations under static and dynamic events such as shock, vibration, crash and durability.
  • Build surrogate models and reduced-order models from full-order finite-element models to accelerate design exploration.
  • Validate simulation models against physical test results and document correlation assumptions, limitations, and confidence levels.
  • Construct analysis workflows with product design engineers to support thermo-mechanical design optimization from early concept phases through the product lifecycle.
  • Develop physical test and simulation methods for mechanical characterization of cells, modules, and components, including material model identification.
  • Review scientific and technical literature to identify state-of-the-art methods for modeling, characterization, and structural or thermo-mechanical analysis.
  • Collaborate with product development leaders to deliver simulation case studies in line with project priorities and timelines.
  • Lead technical investigations, perform diagnostic analyses, prepare progress updates, and contribute to design review dossiers.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development by identifying and documenting innovative modeling methods, workflows, or design insights.

Requirements :

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Specialized knowledge in structural mechanics, strength of materials, thermal engineering, and thermo-mechanical behavior.
  • 10+ years of experience preferred in structural and thermal modeling, finite-element analysis, and model validation.
  • Proficiency in CAD, meshing, mathematical modeling, numerical methods, and model order reduction techniques.
  • Proficiency in scientific coding, preferably Python and/or Matlab.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as 3DEXPERIENCE, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience in, and aptitude for, hands-on laboratory activities and physical test interpretation.
  • Project management experience; English proficiency required; French is a plus.
