About Us
UnitX builds the world's leading physical AI systems to automate repetitive visual tasks in factories. UnitX is a fast-moving startup with a team from Stanford, MIT, Google, and beyond. Since inception, UnitX has deployed 1,000+ mission-critical systems across 190+ of the world's leading manufacturers' production lines. Every year, $15B worth of products go through UnitX's AI inspection system to ensure quality.
The Role
As a Robotics intern, you'll work directly with our engineers on a prototyping robotic work cell—designing and fabricating parts, building up hardware, and running the robot during training. This is a hands-on role with fast design-build-test cycles and real ownership of hardware.
What You'll Do
Design parts for the robot cell in SolidWorks and fabricate them.
Prepare designs for outside fabrication (CNC machining, laser cutting) and communicate with vendors to quote and order parts.
Prototype and assemble mechanical designs.
Support testing, validation, and analysis of assemblies.
Set up and maintain robot cell hardware.
Operate and supervise the robot during training runs
All work is performed under the guidance of a senior mechanical engineer.
Requirements
Junior or senior pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field
Proficiency in SolidWorks
Hands-on mechanical design and 3D printing experience (coursework, clubs, or personal projects)
Able to work 10–20 hrs/week on-site in Milpitas, CA
Authorized to work in the US for any employer
Nice to Have
Robotics experience (competition teams, research labs, coursework)
Familiarity with design for manufacturing (machining and laser-cutting constraints, tolerancing)
Understanding of lighting, camera and optical systems or is a photography enthusiast.
Experience sourcing parts or working with fabrication vendors
A portfolio of past projects (strongly encouraged)
