The Head of Manufacturing and Supply Chain (HMSC) owns geo’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain strategy. The role is accountable for ensuring high quality, cost effective manufacturing and delivery of approximately 1 million devices annually, while managing and optimising component and manufacturing budget.
Our business
geo is the leading supplier of in‑home displays to the GB Smart Metering programme, with more than 11 million devices deployed and an estimated 7.5 billion kilowatt hours saved. We are now building on this success with SeeZero, our next‑generation in‑home display designed to give consumers simple, intuitive tools to understand and manage their energy use and carbon footprint. It forms the foundation of our intelligent domestic energy management strategy, enabling deeper integration with energy retailers and the smart home ecosystem.
We operate from a modern, spacious office on the outskirts of Cambridge and offer flexible hybrid working, with three days per week onsite.
Job role
The Head of Manufacturing and Supply Chain (HMSC) owns geo’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain strategy. The role is accountable for ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective manufacturing and delivery of approximately 1 million devices annually, while managing and optimising component and manufacturing budget. The postholder will lead, develop and grow the M&SC team to meet geo’s sourcing, production and fulfilment objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and extensive experience collaborating with overseas contract manufacturers. They will have a thorough understanding of standard manufacturing processes while remaining open to exploring alternative supply chain and process solutions to achieve unit price and margin targets without compromising quality or reliability. They will be comfortable working in a technically demanding environment where forecasts are variable rather than fixed.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Interface with Finance, Engineering and Commercial to ensure high‑quality, on‑time, sustainably‑margin products
- Own and evolve the relationship with our chosen CEM and key suppliers, including pricing negotiations, contract terms, reporting and performance metrics
- Oversee organization wide management of the strategic sourcing, procurement, contracting, and evaluation of services
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, reporting and information visibility across the organisation including build vs buy tooling decisions.
- Lead the Sales & Operations Planning (SOP) process to align supply with internal and customer demand
- Lead and develop the M&SC team, setting KPIs and accountability frameworks
- Build strong working relationships with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting and financial governance
- Support Commercial during customer conversations and negotiations
- Support customer QA assessments and site visits
- Oversee EcoVadis and carbon‑related initiatives, including supplier carbon‑reduction plans.
- Maintain the manufacturing information security controls in place as part of the production process both in the UK and with our overseas CEM.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations
- In conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team, setting the 3‑year strategic plan for M&SC capability and deliver key annual milestones
- Set and deliver environmental and cost‑optimisation targets
- Identify, mitigate and report on supply chain risks
- Improve throughput, quality and cost across geo’s supply chain, including offshore manufacturing reporting on factory yield.
- Lead cradle‑to‑grave carbon footprint initiatives for products and services.
- Establish and manage reverse logistics processes
- Oversee D2C fulfilment as well as split and container‑based shipments.
Production Planning & Execution
- Oversee production planning, scheduling and engineering activities
- Manage daily interactions with the CEM and key vendors, including buy‑pricing and forecast planning
- Lead production projects and stakeholder alignment
- Chair weekly manufacturing planning meetings
- Accountability for lead times across the product range
- Oversee stock, component inventory and third‑party warehousing across the UK, Europe and Far East
- Oversee BoMs and approved vendor lists to ensure they are optimal
- Deliver cost‑down initiatives and support Finance on pricing and PO management
- Manage ISO9001 procedures, supplier audits, firmware escrow, certification releases and security certificate monitoring.
Requirements
Experience:
- High‑volume consumer electronics manufacturing
- Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement methods
- Implementing ‘should‑cost’ programmes
- Negotiating with Tier‑1 component suppliers
- Working with CEMs on manufacturing, technology re-use and DFM/DFA
- Experience with ISO9001or 6 sigma
