Full job description

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a Inventory Control Manager to design and manage inventory as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.

ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.

As an Inventory Control Manager, you'll be a crucial part of the team, responsible for racking layout, receiving and inspection flow, kitting, pod staging and so much more.

If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The new facility. Warehouse layout and material flow design, racking specification and permitting, dock and receiving configuration, storage strategy by part class, and the equipment list — forklift, pallet jacks, bin shelving, packing stations, chemical storage.
  • The system of record. Configure and roll out inventory control in ERPNext: item master, locations and bins, receiving and goods receipt, material transfers, issue to build, and barcode scanning. Every movement recorded.
  • Record accuracy. Build an ABC cycle counting program — A parts weekly, B monthly, C quarterly — and drive record accuracy to 95% or better, the prerequisite for turning MRP on.
  • Replenishment policy. Set min/max levels and reorder points for B parts, and design kanban / two-bin systems at point of use for the 264 C parts where visual control beats transactions.
  • Two-site inventory. Define what lives where between Sorrento Valley and Carlsbad, and write the transfer policy and process that keeps both sites accurate.
  • The team. Supervise, train and schedule material handlers across both sites. Hire as volume arrives.
  • Kitting and outside processing. Own kitting and shipment of material to sub-assembly and plating suppliers, and the visibility of what is out at a supplier at any moment.
  • Compliance and safety. Forklift and material handling equipment certification, SDS control, segregated chemical and electrolyte storage, and safe handling practices at both sites.
  • Metrics. Report inventory accuracy, receipt cycle time, shortage counts and stock value to the Director of Supply Chain and the VP of Operations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years in inventory control, materials management or warehouse operations, including 2+ years supervising people.
  • You have stood something up before — a new warehouse, a new site, a WMS implementation, or an inventory control program built from nothing. Please tell us which, and what you would do differently.
  • Hands-on experience configuring or implementing inventory control in an ERP or WMS. NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Fishbowl, ERPNext or similar.
  • Practical command of ABC classification, cycle counting, kanban and min/max replenishment, and the discipline to hold accuracy once you have earned it.
  • Manufacturing environment experience. You are comfortable on a production floor, reading a BOM, and talking to engineers about part numbers and revisions.
  • Barcode and label systems: scanners, printers, label design, and getting suppliers to label parts and boxes the way you need them labeled.
  • Racking layout and warehouse design experience. California seismic racking permitting knowledge is a strong plus.
  • Forklift certified, or willing to certify. You will be on the floor, not only at a desk.
  • Comfortable in a low-structure startup where the process does not exist yet and writing it is part of the job.
  • Willing to work on-site in Sorrento Valley for the first few months and then full time in Carlsbad.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with hazardous material handling, SDS management, or chemical storage compliance.
  • Lean, 5S or Kaizen practice — not as a certificate, as something you have actually run.
  • Experience supporting a rapid production ramp, ideally a 5x or greater volume increase.

Location

This position starts at our Sorrento Valley facility (San Diego, CA 92121) for approximately the first three to six months, then moves full time to our new Carlsbad facility (Carlsbad, CA 92010). Please apply only if you can commute to both locations.

Why Work at Fabric8Labs?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, health, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with employer match; and an unmetered vacation policy.
  • We have a collaborative work environment where we work in tight knit teams focused on transforming manufacturing technology.
  • Regular catered company events and celebrations, and a fully stocked breakroom!

Other information

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to type, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Routinely required to move around the facility.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • May require travel (domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs, up to 10%
  • Specific vision abilities that may be required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
