Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a Quality Engineer as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.
ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.
As a Quality Engineer, you’ll be contributing to the company’s efforts to push the boundaries of ECAM technology by maturing our internal quality processes related to printer manufacturing. This will involve using data, structured problem solving methods, and clear communication to prevent issues, solve problems, and sustain results. Your efforts, learnings, and improvements will be leveraged across the fleet and into future fleets and machine development.
This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position that requires strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. We’re changing the manufacturing industry, and we’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic R&D environment while helping establish the quality systems and processes needed to successfully scale into production.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support quality assurance and quality control activities for manufacturing, including inspections, audits, testing, and nonconformance management.
- Analyze manufacturing and quality data to identify trends, drive root cause investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.) to resolve product and process quality issues.
- Develop, maintain, and improve quality documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), inspection plans, work instructions, quality alerts, TDNs, and control plans.
- Partner with ECAM Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, and Design Engineering to improve product quality, manufacturability, and process capability.
- Support supplier quality activities, including supplier issue resolution, incoming inspection improvements, and corrective actions.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure quality requirements are incorporated into manufacturing processes.
- Assist with risk management activities, including PFMEA, control plans, and process validation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven decision making and statistical analysis.
- Support internal and external audits and help maintain compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Track quality metrics and communicate findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or another relevant technical discipline. A Master's degree is a plus.
- 0–5 years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical role.
- Experience creating and maintaining manufacturing documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, inspection procedures, or quality alerts.
- Knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including root cause analysis, CAPA, SPC, FMEA, and process control.
- Experience analyzing manufacturing data to identify trends and support process improvements.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting manufacturing or electromechanical systems is preferred.
- Experience supporting contract manufacturers or outsourced assemblies is a plus.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or manufacturing process development is preferred.
- Experience with documentation control, engineering change management and ECO implementation plans.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Routinely required to move around the facility.

- May require travel (domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs, up to 10%
