Full job description
Senior Metrology Engineer
Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a Senior Process Engineer to lead the development, stabilization, and manufacturing scale-up of our nanofabrication processes as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.
ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.
As a Senior Metrology Engineer, you’ll be a crucial part of the team, leading measurement system analysis, gauge repeatability & reproducibility (GR&R), sampling plan validation, statistical process control (SPC), and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced nanofabrication and advanced manufacturing environment.
If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.
We are seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer to lead key projects within Quality and Engineering teams. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining all metrology tools used for measuring critical dimensions on parts fabricated with our ECAM technology. This individual will also be responsible for training and mentoring other engineers and technicians within the company.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and validate measurement strategies for high precision parts fabricated with ECAM
- Program, operate, and maintain coordinate measurement machines (CMM), optical, and X-ray scanning equipment.
- Own and manage the quality and output of CMM, optical, and X-ray scanning equipment
- Own and manage microsectioning & metallography methods
- Design and maintain associated equipment to meet performance objectives
- Plan, execute, and document experimental work aimed at achieving performance targets
- Maintain adequate records and documentation of the processes, material structures, and performance results to enable effective progress, learning, and knowledge transfer.
- Analyze results, interpret data, and provide recommendations for improvements
- Develop and teach relevant staff members industry and company best practices
- Create and document experimental protocols and procedures necessary to achieve business objectives
- Collaborate with other staff to achieve business objectives
- Ensure all work is executed safely, efficiently, effectively, and within budgetary constraints
Minimum Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Physics, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field
- 5-10 years experience in a thin film processing (integrated circuit, MEMS, or equivalent) or 3D printing foundry
- Deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards
- Experience with good manufacturing practices (GMP)
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC), factorial design of experiments (DOE), and other quality control tools
- Strong leadership, structured problem solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work in an agile lab scale environment
- Ability to multi-task, adjust priorities, create project plans, and manage competing deadlines
- Some mechanical skill: performing assembly of test apparatus, ordinary systems maintenance
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
