Full job description
Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a skilled Metrology Technician as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.
ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.
As a Metrology Technician, you'll be a crucial part of the team, supporting part development and part quality in a fast-paced measurement and inspection environment. You should enjoy operating equipment and be comfortable learning new concepts quickly, and you will be required to interface with multiple disciplines including customer development, engineering, manufacturing, and testing.
If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Inspection, characterization, and documentation of 3D printed metal components.
- Sample preparation and analysis.
- Generate and follow procedures and work instructions.
- Detailed note taking and recording test data.
- Troubleshooting and participation in failure analysis investigations
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, including GD&T.
- Comfortable operating inspection equipment such as: optical microscopes, CMM, OMM, and 3D laser profilers.
- Experience in quality audits, quality control, and quality inspection
- Detail oriented, ability to accurately execute precision measurement steps.
- Passionate about cataloging data and compiling reports.
- Creation and improvement of inspection SOPs.
- Excellent note taking, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Willing to be trained on new processes.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers
- Mechanically inclined and comfortable using hand tools and power equipment (e.g., grinders and polishers).
