Full job description

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.

ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our engineering team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be a crucial part of the team, working on ECAM technology in a fast-paced hardware development environment.

If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and develop systems for the next generation of our additive manufacturing equipment
  • Perform mechanical design and analysis of new and existing systems
  • CAD design and drawing efforts for relevant areas
  • Prototype production and testing to validate design concepts
  • Coordinate with other technical teams to ensure system compatibility
  • Excel as a team leader by mentoring junior engineers, collaborating with other technical disciplines and managing external vendors and consultants
  • Hands-on testing and troubleshooting

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experienced with manufacturing and supporting designs
  • 6+ years of engineering experience
  • Experience designing mechanical systems
  • Experienced with 3D modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Proficiency in making and reviewing 2D technical drawings and application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Willingness to iterate quickly on designs and allow testing to find flaws
  • Demonstrated hands-on equipment and troubleshooting experience
  • Experienced handling suppliers and sourcing materials

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with vacuum systems and sealing
  • Experience in plastic fabrication methods (machining, forming, molding, etc.)
  • Experience with precision alignment assembly techniques

Why Work at Fabric8Labs?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, health, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with employer match; and an unmetered vacation policy.
  • We have a collaborative work environment where we work in tight knit teams focused on transforming manufacturing technology.
  • Regular catered company events and celebrations, and a fully stocked breakroom!
