Full job description

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing metal additive manufacturing with advanced 3D printing technologies. We’re looking for a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team.

Fabric8Labs is focused on accelerating metal additive manufacturing adoption and enabling new applications with our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process. We continue to rapidly expand our production capacity while pushing our capability envelope. Our team is critical to the advancement and commercialization of our disruptive technology.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll be contributing to the company’s efforts to push the boundaries of ECAM technology by maturing our internal manufacturing processes while supporting the ongoing production of customer parts. This will involve the guiding of the technician staff, as well as leading troubleshooting efforts as we grow and develop our fleet of internally designed and manufactured machines. Your efforts, learnings, and improvements will be leveraged across the fleet and into future fleets and machine development.

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll often have to wear multiple hats: designing, testing, supporting, and troubleshooting production processes and equipment. This position requires strong quantitative and analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. We’re changing the manufacturing industry, and we want contributors who are ready to solve the technical challenges of tomorrow.

If you are excited about the opportunity to change the future of manufacturing in collaboration with our growing team, then come join us! Backed by industry-leading partners, including Mark Cuban, Intel Capital, TDK Ventures, Stanley Black and Decker, SK hynix, and NEA: Fabric8Labs is at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, and we are excited to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Mature internal manufacturing processes from R&D to low-to-mid-to-high volume production readiness and stability
  • Improve production effectiveness through equipment, process, documentation, and training
  • Coordinate and perform CAD design and drawing efforts
  • Coordinate with other technical teams to ensure system compatibility
  • Excel as a team member by mentoring junior engineers and supporting our technician staff, collaborating with other technical disciplines and interfacing with external vendors and consultants
  • Hands-on assembly and troubleshooting

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting manufacturing lines
  • Experience designing assembly jigs and fixtures
  • Experience creating work instructions and process documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Strong back-of-envelope skills to use first principles
  • Experience designing and improving low or high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to iterate and validate changes quickly
  • Demonstrated hands-on manufacturing experience
  • Systems skills and experience a serious plus

Why Work at Fabric8Labs?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including equity compensation, health, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with employer match; and an unmetered vacation policy.
  • We have a collaborative work environment where we work in tight knit teams focused on transforming manufacturing technology.
  • Regular catered company events and celebrations, and a fully stocked breakroom!
