As a Prototype Technician, you’ll be working hands-on to support our fast-paced prototyping team, where we turn ideas into functional parts quickly and accurately. You will be trained on the job and be immersed in precision assembly and fabrication, and support our Prototyping team in day-to-day operations, including assembly and inspection. The successful Prototype Technician is mechanically inclined, with an aptitude for problem solving and desire to work on unique part projects, as opposed to high volume production.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Fabricate unique prototypes to a level that approaches artisanship
• Assemble mechanical and electromechanical prototype systems, including soldering and brazing machined components
• Perform inspections and verifications using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other measuring tools on customer parts to ensure conformance with specifications
• Participate in and/or complete quick-turn prototyping projects, including deburring, taping, or assembling of parts
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to study and interpret sample parts, engineering drawings, and CAD models
• Understand and perform projects and duties in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as informal written and verbal instructions
• Maintain a neat, clean and organized work area with engineers and technicians, as well as awareness of stock of materials, fixtures, and other tools or parts

Required Skills and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, with basic math skills
• Experience working with hand tools, shop and mechanical tools and equipment
• Strong interest and aptitude in hands-on technical and mechanical work
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Ability to learn quickly and develop understanding of working projects and needs
• Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to stay organized between multiple tasks and projects and in a collaborative workshop environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable working from and interpreting informal documentation that may change as projects evolve

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with CAD models or engineering drawings
• Experience soldering or assembling in a workshop or manufacturing environment

Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications. The expected compensation range for this role is $22 to $30 per hour.
