Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing metal additive manufacturing with advanced 3D printing technologies. We’re looking for a skilled Senior Process Engineer to join our team.

Fabric8Labs is focused on accelerating metal additive manufacturing adoption and enabling new applications with our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) processes. Since closing our Series B funding round, we are rapidly expanding our team to advance and commercialize our disruptive technology.

We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to lead key projects within our chemistry and materials development team. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving electroplating processes, equipment, and procedures while ensuring they comply with industry standards and regulations. This individual will also be responsible for training and mentoring other engineers and technicians within the company.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize electroplating processes and procedures for various materials and substrates
  • Design and maintain electroplating equipment to required to meet performance objectives
  • Plan, execute, and document experimental work aimed at achieving material performance targets
  • Maintain adequate records and documentation of the processes, material structures, and performance results to enable effective progress, learning, and knowledge transfer.
  • Analyze results, interpret data, and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Develop and teach relevant staff members industry and company best practices
  • Create and document experimental protocols and procedures necessary to achieve business objectives
  • Collaborate with other staff to achieve business objectives
  • Ensure all work is executed safely, efficiently, effectively, and within budgetary constraints

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field.
  • Industry experience in electroplating or semiconductor Via plating (TSVs, TGVs) preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years experience in a thin film processing foundry (integrated circuit, MEMS, or equivalent foundry)
  • Experience with electrochemical analytical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry spectroscopy (CVS) and/or electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
  • Experience with or knowledge of materials characterization methods such as electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, profilometry, film thickness instruments, film composition, and film stress measurement
  • Experience with good manufacturing practices (GMP)
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC), factorial design of experiments (DOE), and other quality control tools
  • Strong leadership, structured problem solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in an agile lab scale environment
  • Ability to multi-task, adjust priorities, create project plans, and manage competing deadlines
  • Experience with in-situ analysis of process chemistries
  • Some mechanical skill: performing assembly of test apparatus, ordinary systems maintenance

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Routinely required to move around the facility.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • May require travel (domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs, up to 10%
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
