Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing metal additive manufacturing with advanced 3D printing technologies. We’re looking for a skilled Printer Build and Repair Technician to join our Build and Repair team.

As a Printer Build Technician, you’ll be working hands-on to fabricate, assemble, test and repair our 3D Printers in a low volume production environment. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment and will be required to learn new systems and methods quickly as we ramp our production capacity from low to high volume. You will be encouraged to help improve the production process by providing feedback to engineers. You should enjoy being meticulous and take pride in the quality of your work.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Fabrication technician focused on assembling the electrical systems of the 3D printers that we make.
  • Self-monitor work through routine quality checks.
  • Mechanical assembly of machined parts and fluid systems, performing bonding, using hand tools.
  • Keep the production area clean and organized.
  • Learn new processes and techniques quickly.
  • Help evolve the production line by providing feedback to engineers.
  • Troubleshooting issues with the printers, finding root causes, and proposing solutions (both repair and long-term design improvements).
  • Hands-on fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in electrical assembly is Required, for example, building the electrical control boxes of an industrial machine.
  • Basic knowledge of power supplies, data connections, PCB components.
  • Electrical safety rules and concepts.
  • Wire harness building.
  • PCB soldering skills are desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in a high-tech low-volume production environment.
  • Knowledge of different fabrication techniques, (eg soldering).
  • Experience using hand tools in the assembly process.

Good to have:

  • Experience with the use of electronic diagnostic equipment. Knowledge of firmware, CNC, and custom software used to operate machinery.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Able to identify root causes and develop comprehensive long-term solutions.
  • Understanding of 5S, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma.
  • Enjoys challenging technical problems and finding practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated hands-on equipment and troubleshooting experience.

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; listen: use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Routinely required to move around the facility.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • May require travel (domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs, up to 10%.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
